Maierteich - September 2016
Meine Freundin (zukünftige Frau) =) Conny und ich fingen in 5 Tagen insgesamt 27 Karpfen, 2 kleine Welse und etliche Rießenbrassen. 4 Fische stachen heraus zwischen 18 kg und 19,60 kg. Ein Schnittgewicht von 11,30 kg ist ein Traum. Die größte Brasse hatte unglaubliche 6 kg. Immer wieder ein herrliches Gewässer zum relaxen. Waren wundervolle 5 Urlaubstage zu zweit.

Norwegen, Irland, Schottland, Schweden, Island?
Nein, dieser Rekordlachs mit 1.41 m Länge wurde nicht in einem der „klassischen“ Lachsländer in Europa gefangen. Im Oktober ging dieser Riesenlachs einem 23 Jahre alten Studenten an den Haken und übertraf damit die alte Rekordmarke aus dem Jahre 1954 um ganze 5 cm. Und da dieser Fisch wieder zurückgesetzt wurde kommen hoffentlich auch zukünftig weitere Grosslachse den Storå hinauf. Genau, dieser Fluss befindet sich in Dänemark bei Holstebro in der Region Midtjylland. Auch sonst kann Dänemark nebst exzellenten Meerforellen Beständen durchaus mit zahlreichen Lachsflüssen aufwarten – Lachsurlaub 2017 in Dänemark? Eine berechtigte Option.

The biggest Golden Mahseer in recent past

World Mahseer Champion Joe Assassa of Mahseer Sports and Adventures caught the biggest Golden Mahseer (Tor putitora) in modern times on 6 March 2010. Joe is something of a legend in the small world of mahseer fishing. He's been in the angling press and the picture walls at the Jungle Lodges feature many shots of him and various huge fish. He also holds the best mark for the biggest Deccan Mahseer in the last decades, a 70 lb specimen caught mid January 2011. The Deccan Mahseer (Tor khudree) was introduced in the Cauvery River in the 1980s and the population develops very well.

A rod caught specimen with at least 15 kg (33 lb).

Little information exist on this rare giants with a growth potential of over 2 metres. The last remaining habitat is the deep jungle of Laos. It occurs in some Mekong tributaries, but has never been found in the Mekong mainstream. The Nam Theun population of Luciocyprinus striolatus is one of the few robust populations of giant cyprinids in the world. River Guides from Thailand "discovered" this powerful predator on an initial exploratory trip at the Laos/Vietnam border in a National Park. The species is listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List, threatened by dam building. For natives it's just a big fish with a lot of meat. Sportfishing (Ecotourism) can change the awareness.

Two new Peacock Bass world records

A 19 lb Thyrorus Peacock, on of two new Peacock Bass species.

At the moment 15 species of the genus Cichla are recognized. But there are ongoing scientific discussions about the validity. Sport fishermen have made these cichlids prized game fish for their fighting qualities. The IGFA published new all tackle world records for the Thyrorus Peacock and the Vazzoleri Peacock from Rio Trombetas. For the Thyrorus Peacock we found this record catch, far bigger than the "official" best mark.

New Adriatic Sturgeon rod & reel record

An Adriatic Sturgeon between 60 and 80 kilograms.

|
Yuri Grisendi, an experienced and well-known catfish fisherman caught the new best mark on 2 November 2015 in the Po River near Ostiglia (Mantova). The fish with a length of around 2 metres was released alive after some quick photo shots. Grisendi uses a specially equipped boat to catch Wels catfish. This endangered and protected species was an unexpected prey. Apparently the recovery actions and repopulations carried out in the past years have been successful. Most probably this fish, like the previous one caught by the same fisherman, is part of the stock of 2.000 fingerlings released in 1992 by the Mantova province.

This new best mark, recognized by the IGFA too, was caught on 22 August 2015. The Bicuda, also known as Pike Characin with an average size of 4-5 kg is a hard adversary in fast water of the Brazilian highland rivers. It hits lures aggressively and jumps more acrobatically than most other south american gamefish. Their repeated jumps and bony mouths make landing of large specimen an exceptional challenge.
